City of Huron Water Treatment Plant Expansion
Area: 10,000 SF
Project Duration: 14 Months
Faced with critical infrastructure challenges, the City of Huron needed a long-term solution to ensure a consistent, reliable supply of clean water to its residents. During peak summer months, the city struggled to meet water demand, while in the winter, underground storage tanks were susceptible to freezing—posing a threat to the entire water distribution system.
Simonson Construction was awarded the contract as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. Our role as the Design-Build Contractor involved close collaboration with city officials, engineers, and vendors to address the city’s unique supply issues through a phased construction approach.
Over the course of 14 months, our team dedicated more than 12,000 manhours to this vital public works project. The 10,000-square-foot expansion included upgrades to the plant’s water storage and treatment capabilities, ensuring year-round operational reliability. Our crews self-performed a wide range of work—site preparation, foundations, utility installation, reinforced steel, metal building erection, and the installation of critical water treatment infrastructure.
Particularly noteworthy was our work installing new water treatment equipment designed to increase processing capacity while improving overall water quality. The phased approach allowed the existing facility to remain operational throughout construction, avoiding service disruptions to residents and businesses.
From initial groundwork to final testing and turnover, Simonson Construction was committed to delivering a high-performance, durable solution tailored to the city’s needs. Today, the improved Huron Water Treatment Plant helps ensure that residents can count on safe, adequate water—no matter the season.
This project reflects our team’s ability to deliver complex utility infrastructure with precision, efficiency, and attention to the long-term sustainability of the communities we serve.
