Food Processing Facility Renovation & Equipment Installation
When a northeast Ohio food processor acquired a 50,000-square-foot warehouse with plans to transform it into a fully operational food processing facility, they partnered with Simonson Construction Services, Inc. to deliver the project through our design-build approach.
Originally designed as a storage warehouse, the facility required extensive modifications to support food production operations. Working closely with the owner, our team provided architectural design services and construction expertise to reimagine the space for processing raw ingredients into fully cooked food products. By serving as a single-source partner from design through construction, Simonson helped streamline communication, coordinate complex project requirements, and keep the project moving efficiently.
A key component of the project involved the rigging, assembly, and installation of large-scale, custom-built food production equipment. Our crane, rigging, and millwright crews coordinated the placement of specialized processing machinery, elevated work platforms, and conveying systems critical to the facility’s operations. These installations required detailed planning and precise execution to ensure equipment was safely positioned and ready for production.
Outside the facility, the project included significant site improvements to support material handling and logistics. Simonson replaced and reconstructed the existing railroad spur, constructed a new offloading station, and erected three 50-foot-tall storage silos to accommodate incoming raw materials and improve operational efficiency.
Throughout the project, Simonson self-performed several critical scopes of work, including architectural design, demolition, sitework and underground utilities, crane and rigging services, millwright installation, doors and hardware, and general carpentry. This ability to self-perform key portions of the work provided greater control over quality, schedule, and coordination.
Today, the renovated facility serves as a modern food processing operation designed to support production demands while positioning the owner for future growth.
